If you travel by bus and wonder why they are consistently running late, it’s because the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) are short of both staff and buses.
Currently, PMPML has around 1,875busesandaround1,350 busesrun daily on the roads with 3,346 drivers, 4,937 conductors and 1,398 staff in the PMPML workshop. This means there are 1591 less drivers as compared to conductors.
Though all the buses were repaired and in operation for the Pune Bus Day held on November 1, the buses soon started breaking down thereafter. The shortage of drivers only added to the transport body’s woes.
