People are demanding widening of roads to the manned railway crossings located at Dapodi, Kasarwadi and Pimpri. Sushil Mancharkar, president, legal cell, Pimpri Chinchwad unit of Congress has written a letter to the municipal commissioner making this demand.
The Pune-Lonavla railway track has manned railway crossings which enable the vehicles and people to cross the railway tracks safely. But the existing roads are very narrow causing traffic congestion. There are large number of vehicles on both sides of the manned crossings when the gates are closed for the passage of trains. The long queues of vehicles extend onto the highway and cause traffic congestion on the service road of the highway. The traders and shopkeepers have encroached on these narrow roads. Heavy vehicles are banned on these roads but still they ply adding to the congestion. The rickshaws too stop on these narrow roads further adding to the chaos.
