The Pune city traffic police are now taking the help of technology to reach out to citizens. The traffic department has tied up with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) to send text messages (SMSes) about traffic rules and safety tips.
In the first stage, the traffic department will be reaching out to 6.35 lakh customers of BSNL. Later, the department hopes to reach all 44 lakh BSNL customers. Traffic department officials claim that this is the best way to spread awareness amongst citizens.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (traffic) said, for the first time we will be taking the help of the technology to create awareness. With the help of SMS they will at least have the time to read and understand the message. If the citizens start following traffic rules the number of accidents will come down drastically.
