Chandrika Parmar, who uses the road every day , said “The Bavdhan bridge has de finitely eased congestion aro und the area, but the road un der the flyover is in a shabby state, which makes it one hel of a ride. I have seen some mo torcyclists skid. The lane just ahead, with residential societies on both sides, is full of badly constructed speed breakers.“
The drive under the bridge is fraught with risks, says Lalit Raut, who travels between Warje and Hinjewadi for work.
Monica Shitut, another commuter, said, “I constantly worry my car would break down in one of the huge craters on the service road.“
Senior traffic police officials have assured to take up the matter with the highway authority . Rajkumar Shere, police inspector (planning) of the traffic police, said, “The service roads and diversions have been in use even before he new bridges were commissioned. We will draw NHAI officials’ attention to he problem at a meeting in he first week of January.“
Praful B Diwan, project director of the Pune division of NHAI, promised action. “I conducted a site visit on Tuesday . The uneven surface and potholes occur because of heavy traffic on the bypass. We have raised the matter with the concessionaire and asked him to repair the road to improve its drivability,“ Diwan said.
