The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will fine roadside vendors of Rs 5,000 if they are found using plastic bags below 50 microns.
A survey of roadside vendors is underway. The PMC officials have come across many vendors using bags below 50 microns, the press statement from the civic body said adding that the vendors will be fined Rs 5,000 if found using these bags.
The civic body has already decided to charge Rs15 for each carry bag in the city, irrespective of its size. At present, carry bags with a thickness of less than 50 microns have been banned. The proposal states that the administration can take action against traders who offer customers carry bags without making an entry in the bill.
