Thirty minutes of rainfall in Vadgaonsheri exposed the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) tall claims on Monday as several parts of the area experienced heavy waterlogging. Rain water even entered some housing societies.
The worst affected areas in Vadgaonsheri were Sainikwadi, Ganraj Cooperative Housing Society, Ujjwal Garden and Anand Heights.
The rainfall started at around 4 pm and continued for the next half-an-hour. However, during this short time, several areas in Vadgaonsheri experienced waterlogging. Waterlogging on main roads also resulted in traffic jams and vehicles moved at a snail’s pace.
Vadgaonsheri resident Ashish Mane said that the PMC did not carry out any pre-monsoon storm water drain cleaning work, which caused the waterlogging. “Last year also, the PMC did not do the required pre-monsoon work and we are facing the same situation this year,” Mane said.
“The PMC should immediately carry out the pre-monsoon work and clean all storm water drain lines before the southwest monsoon actually hits Pune,” Mane said.
