The problem of Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) bus parking is likely to solve to an extent with the Pune Municipal Corporation deciding to provide amenity space to the PMPML to park its buses.
The PMPML is faced with a piquant situation; it does not have space for parking its buses during night time after they have completed their scheduled runs for the day. Lack of place to park and proper security forced PMPML to park its buses on public roads where the buses are either found damaged the next morning or their parts stolen. At present, the buses are parked in the ten PMPML depots in the city.
Hence PMC is going to provide parking space at eight spots. Civic body told that though parking space at eight places would not completely solve our problem but it will reduce the problem to an extent. A PMPML official said the parking space earmarked in the suburbs include those in Katraj, Baner, Hadapsar, Balewadi and Dhairy. The two others are outside the suburbs. If civic bodies help PMPML by providing proper parking space, the losses will come down and then it would not be required to hike fares.
