The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has stopped construction work on the Bio Diversity Park (BDP) land at Dukkarkhind hill behind Mahatma housing society in Kothrud.
Officials said that a nuisance detection squad of the PMC visited the site recently and directed the caretaker of the plot to immediately stop the construction work.
According to the officials, there is no permission to undertake any kind of construction activity on that piece of land. They will send a letter to PMC’s building permission department to bring the issue to its notice.
Media reports had highlighted that in violation of the proposed ‘no construction’ rule on the BDP, the work on three acres of land was going on at full swing owned by a private party, whose identity could not be ascertained.
A compound wall was being constructed and the ground was being levelled using earth movers.
The state government has banned any construction activity in BDP areas till it takes a final decision on the quantum of construction to be allowed in such zones.
Save Pune Hills (SPH), a social organisation, appealed to new municipal commissioner to take efforts for protecting the BDP from illegal constructions and encroachments.
SPH also sent a letter to Chief Minister requesting him not to succumb to pressure to scrap the BDP.
