The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to introduce the green rating system for buildings in order to promote construction of environment friendly buildings in the city. Municipal Commissioner, in his maiden budget presented to the standing committee last week, introduced the energy saving and environment friendly green rating system.
According to the PMC, the civic body will offer 5 per cent to 15 per cent rebate in premium for buildings constructed using the system. The green rating system is a system through which an attempt is made to minimise a building’s resource consumption, waste generation, and its overall ecological impact by adopting energy efficient and environment friendly construction.
Earlier, TERI had advocated implementation and mainstreaming of sustainable habitats in India and developed GRIHA (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment), which was adopted as the national rating system for green buildings by the Government of India in 2007.
The ministry of New and Renewal Energy, with the help of The Energy and Resources Institution (TERI), had developed the Association of Development and Research of Sustainable Habitants (ADARSH) and Green Rating Integrated Habitant Assessment (GRIHA) systems to carry out green rating of construction projects. After implementation of ADARSH and GRIHA, allotting rates of the green building will be offered a rebate in premium rates according to the rating.
For a construction project having a three to five green rating, a 5 per cent to 15 per cent rebate in the premium prices will be offered, in the budget presentation. The green rating will be part of the upcoming fiscal for 2015-16.
