This year, the civic body started the 24-hour helpline from June 1.They may give their contact information while registering a complaint so that the officials can inform them after repairing the potholes.
Citizens can inform the civic official about the location of the potholes in their areas. The complaints are forwarded to the ward officers and the problem is solved in a day or two, a PMC official said.
So far, civic officials have received complaints from the Peth areas,Kothrud,Hadapsar,NIBM Road,Satara Road and Sinhagad Road.According to them, complaints are expected to increase during the peak monsoon spanning July,August and September.
In some cases, citizens have complained that potholes do not get repaired on time and registering a complaint is a mere formality. But PMC officials said that repairing potholes is not possible when it is raining. The administration is working on a plan to use better technology for repairing potholes. If that happens, then we will also be able to conduct the repair work during rains. The aim is to reduce the number of complaints, said the official.
The civic body will use a tough terrain road-building technology to solve the pothole issues on city roads. This technology is used in the Northeast and Kashmir and will soon be implemented in the city.Researchers from the Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) in Delhi recently visited Pune to train the engineers on the technique.
The technique involves the use of cold mix to repair roads, which can be used even when its raining, instead of hot mix concrete.
