The recurring problem of overflowing sewage water filling about a 300 metre stretch on the main road is troubling the citizens of Chinchwad.
At a busy junction like Elpro Square, located on the Chapekar Chowk-Chinchwad Station Road, the regular phenomenon of sewage water overflow is creating hygiene issues in the area.
Subhashchandra S Pandit, a resident of SKF Colony, said, “It is a big problem for us. We keep telling the nearby eateries that they should complain to the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and get the problem fixed permanently. It generally happens in the morning hours. We have to drop children to their school bus at that junction. Buying milk and bread is also a trouble, if one has to walk through that dirty water.”
The problem is recurring as the pipeline gets blocked allegedly due to plastic and other such non-degradable material being thrown into the sewage.
Every time, some people from private contractors are called, they dig and clear the pipeline for the time being, which is temporary, residents said.
A nearby shopkeeper, Ramlal Prajapati said, “This is a weekly problem, sometimes twice a week. The water stinks a lot and there are clear hygiene issues. Action must be taken to resolve this issue permanently.”
