Illegal parking leads to chaotic traffic in Deccan

Cops plan to put up 50 ‘no parking’ banners along the stretch and follow it up with strict action against violators

Commuters and residents of the Deccan area have been plagued for some time with the problem of haphazard parking by owners of private vehicles. This is posing a threat to commuters and creating a chaotic traffic situation every day. The residents of this area have raised concerns over traffic congestion and safety of commuters on this road. The citizens who live there or regularly pass through complaints that they are worst hit by vehicles parked by visitors to Tilak Swimming Pool. Citizens complain that the traffic police have taken no measures to solve the problem that is creating inconvenience to a large number of commuters for quite a while.

“The entire area is filled with vehicles, mostly cars parked on the stretch starting from Prabhat Road and going on to Karve Road. The area is facing regular traffic jams and vehicles move at snail’s pace due to the huge private cars parked on the road in a haphazard manner. The cars are parked right below the ‘no parking’ boards in utter disregard for the law,” claimed Pranav Ganbote, a regular commuter.

“Due to the Metro work on Karve Road commuters have started using alleys to reach the Deccan area. This has led to a huge number of vehicles using the stretch to commute. Due to this the entire Prabhat Road gets blocked with illegally parked vehicles. A huge number of vehicles belong to visitors coming to Tilak Swimming Pool and they continue to violate the parking norms. The traffic police should do something and solve the problem as this has become unbearable,” he added.

Police inspector, AS Chandkhede, attached to Deccan traffic division, said, “We routinely take action against illegally parked vehicles on this stretch. Due to Metro work on Karve Road commuters take these routes. We are going to put up 50 ‘no parking’ banners on this stretch. After this, action will continue in full swing against illegal parking. The risk of accidents rises due to careless people. We hope the drives continue till this unending development work is completed.”
