`Frustrated’ man vents out on traffic constable

Cop claims he was just trying to stop him from driving in the wrong direction
What was supposed to be a dutiful day for this traffic cop at Yerwada, turn ed into a disaster after he was beaten up by a traffic violator on Sunday. A two-wheeler rider thrashed the constable where he asked not to ride in the wrong direction. After the youth was nabbed, he claimed that he beat the cop to “vent out his frustration“.Gokul Pardeshi, the traffic constable attached with Yerwada traffic division, has lodged a complaint against the youth with Yerwada police station. The arrested person has been identified as Tejas Dashrath Balghare (22), a resident of Yerwada. Police have registered a case under Section 353 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for assaulting a public servant to deter him from discharging hisher duty. The incident took place at Tarkeshwar Chowk, where Pardeshi was deployed to monitor traffic on Saturday.

In his statement, Pardeshi recounted the incident saying he was manning the traffic on Sunday evening when the traffic flow is usually high.He saw a two-wheeler rider approaching from the wrong direction, which he perceived as a threat to other commuters as well as himself. Pardeshi stopped him and asked he rider to return.

“Instead of listening to me, he started arguing. When I asked him to not break traffic rules, he drove his vehicle to the side of the road and parked it. Then, he came up and continued arguing. When I told him that I was just doing my duty, he grabbed me by the uniform and initiated a scuffle. When I tried to pacify him, he headbutted me,“ Pardeshi said.

On observing the fracas, a few bystander intervened and managed to get hold of Balghare, who was later arrested and taken to Yerwada police station.

Speaking about reason behind the attack, as sistant police inspector S Marode of Yerwada police station, who is investigating the case, told Pune Mirror, “Balghare works at a mall on Nagar Road. While we were interrogating him, he told us that he was disturbed due to certain family issues. He vented his anger on the constable.“

Cops said that they have often observed such road rage cases in the suburbs. A senior police official told Mirror, “No particular area in the city is dominated by road rage incidents. However, most of such offences take place in the suburbs that have recently come up. Here, people do not want to follow any traffic rules. When they are accosted, they turn violent.“
