The Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) Vishrambaug-Kasba regional ward office caught a truck red-handed while dumping debris on the riverbed behind Vartak Gartak, and recovered a fine of Rs 25,000. The truck was confiscated and later returned after the owner removed the dumped debris. Assistant municipal commissioner and Kasba regional ward officer Arun Khilari said the ward office has started round-the-clock vigilance to prevent dumping of debris in the rivers. Khilari said the civic staff maintains vigil during the night shift between 10 pm and 6 am since such dumping activities occur during this period when people are not present to object. The PMC has urged the people not to dump debris in the rivers and has also requested them to inform the civic body in case they come across such violations.
