Over 500 techies from various IT companies, 5,000 students and 1,000 members of various citizens forums joined hands with Pune traffic police to spread traffic safety awareness and help them monitor the traffic at various places in the city.
After ardently participating in traffic safety fortnight campaign, these citizens have decided to support the traffic cops and hold campaigns throughout the year. Assistant commissioner of police (traffic) said, it is essential that citizens also become part of awareness programmes to bring in positive change in the society. There were a number of IT professionals who took out time and hit the streets along with traffic cops and make people aware about the traffic rules. There are some companies who have taken a step forward and have started prohibiting entry for employees using two-wheelers without helmets.
IT professionals claim that it is important to be self disciplined and said that it is more important to be disciplined before spreading the message. They are spreading awareness messages and also using the social media for the purpose.
Members of the residents forum said that the best way to learn and understand the traffic rules is to have a firsthand experience of the situation.
President of NIBM Road Residents Forum said that, It is important to be disciplined and respect the law. This is the best platform to educate citizens and make them understand the importance of traffic rules.
