Problem of neon light (Fluorescent blue and Green) on vehicles is increasing day by day on roads of Pune. These lights irritates other drivers and distract them from tracs resulting into traffic congestion or mishaps. Some people thinks that they look ‘Cool’ by displaying such lights on their bike or car.
The various colored neon lights that are popular on cars and motorcycles, are not authorized for use on public roadways, and it is common practice that the packaging such lights were sold in contains warnings that the lights are “For off-road use only.”
But nowadays, these annoying lights are seen on more and more vehicles. These lights are brighter than the regular ones. The drivers don’t even have a courtesy to keep lights on deeper mode. Most of the times the lights goes right into the eyes of oncoming drivers. It becomes harder to identify lanes and road markings. The potential for accidents increases dramatically during such moments.
Most state vehicle laws are based on the Uniform Vehicle Code (UVC) which states that only white or yellow (amber) lights can show from the front of the vehicle, and only red or yellow (amber) lights can show from the rear while the vehicle is in motion on public streets. Any other colored lights, such as those used by emergency vehicles are only authorized to be used for specific warning purposes.
