Although Pune is growing rapidly, the poor public transport system has not been able to keep up pace with Pune’s growth rate. While the city is expanding in every direction, there is poor connectivity of public transport system and therefore Puneites are forced to use private vehicles.
While Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad areas have a population of nearly 55 lakh, Puneites are not likely to get any respite from the traffic congestion as city’s vehicle population is expected to cross 35 lakh marks by the end of this month. Nearly 14 lakh vehicles have been added to city’s vehicle population in the last ten years.
