The pit on Kashibai Khilare Path is endangering lives every day, citizens have said, demanding immediate repairs by the PMC
Bumpy rides have become a daily hassle for Pune’s commuters, all thanks to the poor condition of roads in and around the city, which somehow continue to remain in disrepair despite taxpaying money being directed towards the administration like clockwork every year. Naturally, this has sparked concerns of laxity on part of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). In a similar instance, commuters along Kashibai Khilare Path at Karve Road, as well as surrounding residents, are irked by a massive pit that has developed on this road. Citizens claim the local body has had failed to maintain this road for long now, and repairs need to be conducted here immediately, as the faulty patch poses a risk of accidents and fatalities.
“The massive pit at Kashibai Khilare Path, very near Sanjeevan Hospital, has become a major cause of concern for thousands of commuters and area residents using the road on a daily basis. It is endangering several lives every day, and has been lying unattended for a while,” claimed area resident Ashutosh Gawde, adding, “The road is relatively smooth till the hospital, but then this hole suddenly surprises motorists. Many times, bikers coming at a high speed are unable to control their vehicles and fall from it, leading to minor accidents. These happen fairly often, and we are just waiting for a major mishap.”
He further said, “Since it is the rainy season at the moment, the pit has gotten filled up with rainwater and mud, and its depth becomes deceptive due to this. Moreover, at night, low lighting increases the danger. This location has become a black spot for accidents. PMC needs to get its act together fast.”
Citing ignorance about the issue, Ganesh Sonune, assistant commissioner of the Warje-Karvenagar ward office, said, “I was unaware about this pit in my ward area. I will speak to my officials and inform them to visit the location and identify the problem. The problem will be resolved.”
