While third site in Khed taluka under review, technical report sought
A new report by a technical committee has recommended that the proposed Pune international airport should have two runways to accommodate the increasing traffic. Of the three sites in Khed taluka suggested for the airport, the committee is expected to give a detailed report on one of the sites by the end of the month. The distance between Navi Mumbai airport and the present site would also not be an issue, said a senior official from the Mantralaya.
“The three sites are in the same area and presently, the site towards the north has been selected. Earlier, the AAI officials have had agencies appointed to give the report on feasibility and now, I have asked the civil aviation department to have experts from the AAI to give a final report on the hilly area at this site,” said the official.
Though many sites in other areas were also considered, civil aviation authorities zeroed in on the sites in Khed taluka. “All the three sites are in the same area at some distance from each other,” said the official.
