PMC to plant seven lakh trees in five years

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to prepare a ‘green plan’ for the next five years and plant around seven lakh trees with a view to create 33 per cent green cover in the city. The civic administration, during a meeting with Rajya Sabha MP Vandana Chavan and representatives of NGOs, has assured that the plan will be prepared by August  this year. Various aspects pertaining to tree plantation were discussed at the meeting. Vandana Chavan said that, there is a need to plant over 7 lakh trees in the city, but the municipal administration is progressing at a very slow pace and is planting only 10,000 trees per year.
