Pune is facing acute shortage of water. To some extent, the citizens are responsible for wastage of water. In restaurants, water is usually served in glasses needlessly resulting in wastage of water. There is need to conserve water as much as possible. Thus, Rotary Club of Pune Prime City has taken an initiative ‘Serve water in jug, we’ll serve ourselves’.
Speaking about the project Rotarian Makarand Tilloo said, “This is the second phase and we are launching the save water project with hotels and restaurants, where the waiters will be asked not to serve water in glasses but in jugs. Usually waiters serve full glass of water and people waste it, which is then thrown. This project will help save lakhs of litres of water. In the first phase, the club started with repairing damaged taps and also documented the water loss. The first tap that we repaired was wasting five litres per minute. We have decided to replace 1000 taps throughout the year,” Tilloo, member of the Rotary Club of Pune Prime City has ideated a yearlong series working towards water conservation. Rotary Club of Pune Prime City has tied up with 100 restaurants in the city for this project.
Henceforth, in a city restaurant you will find water being served to you in a jug rather than glass avoiding wastage of water.
