The signal has a solar power backup of approximately 48 hours. Wheels at its bottom help in moving it around easily. A solar panel on top, a battery and set-top box complete the look.
Supplied by a Pune-based company , the pilot run of the new equipment is on. Based on its success, the traffic police hopes to procure at least one portable signal for each of its divisions through e-tendering.
The traffic police is confident that it will come in handy in case of emergencies and breakdowns. Describing the possible benefits, deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Sarang Awad said, “We hope to put it to good use in case of bus breakdowns or power failures and even in case of traffic jams or wherever immediate traffic diversions are required.“ Traffic police inspector (planning) Rajkumar Shere said, “We are trying to get the manufacturers supply signals attaining the height of four metres -the standard of all traffic signals in the city .The best part is it can be collapsed easily and even locked in a place.
