Ban on sound-emitting crackers from 10 pm to 6 am

Taking cognizance of sound pollution in the city, the Pune police have imposed a complete ban on bursting sound-emitting firecrackers between 10 pm and 6 am during Diwali. They will strictly abide by the Supreme Court rules.

The city police have issued a detailed notification including guidelines seeking a complete ban on bursting and sale of high-intensity crackers during Diwali in the city. The guidelines also restrict bursting of crackers near hospitals, educational institutions, old age homes, courts and public roads. The notification stated that the Pune police will issue licenses for sale of crackers till November 9. Post the last date, no sale of crackers would be allowed. The pending stock with the vendors should be deposited to the licensed cracker storage godowns as a safety measure, the notification said.
Fire crackers like tadtadys, apti bars, crackers popularly known as atom bombs, that are more than 42.534 gram in weight which bursts louder than 125 decibels, cracker garlands exceeding 20 feet and louder than 105 decibels, etc. have been banned.
