6,000 two-wheeler riders fined

A fine of Rs 6 lakh was collected from 6,000 two-wheeler riders for violating traffic rules by the traffic police in Pimpri-Chinchwad under a drive that started on November 7.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) told Sakal Times that the drive will go on and that 10 senior officers were involved in the drive.
Maximum people were fined for driving without helmets. The number of two-wheeler riders riding with two pillions and not obeying the zebra crossing rules was also high. As part of this drive, every day, almost 2,000 traffic violators are fined. He added that they removed 60 illegal sign boards of ‘parking’ from the highway so that the traffic flow is smooth.
Many of these sign boards were put up by the local representatives without getting proper permission from the municipal corporation or the traffic police. These were creating bottlenecks on Pune-Mumbai, Pune-Nashik and Pune-Bangalore highways that pass through the city. The traffic department of Pimpri, Chinchwad, Nigdi and Hinjewadi has taken the bold step of removing the sign boards.
In addition, the traffic department of Chinchwad also cracked down and confiscated six tourist vehicles carrying passengers in an authorised manner. All these vehicles had a white number plate depicting a private vehicle but were carrying passengers. At Pimpri Market, jammers were put on close to 1,000 cars for having parked wrongly and creating bottlenecks. Single line parking at the Pimpri Market will help in controlling traffic congestion at Sai Chowk, Shagun Chowk and Karachi Chowk.
