BRIDGE RENOVATION CHOKES CITY TRAFFIC

Traffic police closed the road through Dengle Bridge near Kumbhar Wada for renovations on Saturday. This has led to chaos on the connecting roads as vehicles try to manouevre their way through streets that are in a state of disarray because of the sudden inflow of traffic. On Monday, Mirror spotted vehicles moving at a snail’s pace at streets like Shaniwar Wada, Shivaji Road, Shaniwar Peth and the road towards Tilak Bridge.Traffic cops have blocked a left turn towards Dengle Bridge due to which vehicles have to go till Mangala Theatre Chowk and take a U-turn. This has adversely affected the peak-hour traffic coming from Bajirao Road. “Our traffic police are continuously monitoring the traffic throughout the day, along with the Vishrambaug and Faraskhana division’s personnel. Till the renovations are done, there will be some inconvenience for commuters, but our policemen try to clear the congestion,“ said traffic inspector S R Damse, in-charge of Shivajinagar traffic division. But, regular commuters seem miffed with this, Rohan Nalawade, shared, “Now, every political party will conduct rallies. PMC has closed one of the major bridges, which is creating a hurdle to travel.“
