The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), in order to ease traffic congestion, has planned two parallel bridges at Sai chowk in Rahatni where the two BRTS corridors -the Sangvi-Kiwale route and the Nashik Phata Wakad route -intersect.
Defence authorities closing the road from Pimple Saudagar to Rakshak chowk has added to the congestion.
Transport utility PMPML (Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd) and PCMC started bus operations on the two 45-meter wide corridors in October and November last year. Around the same time in October, the 650 metre road passing through defence land at Pimple Saudagar (Kunjirvasti to Rakshak chowk) was closed following a court order. Many vehicle users, who used the road to go to Aundh, Shivajinagar and Pune, now have to take a long er route of 8km causing congestion at Sai chowk, during peak hours.
Civic officials said two grade separators will also be built along the Nashik Phata Wakad route. The bridges will be built by the Pimpri Chinchwad New Township Development Authority (PCNTDA) and the grade separators will be built by PCMC.
Engineering department officials said the civic body will be appointing a project management consultant, mainly for traffic and technical surveys. The consultant will prepare maps for general arrangement drawings for the grade separators, and prepare technical reports before estimating the budget for the projects.
PCNTDA had earlier built two parallel bridges on the Sangvi-Kiwale BRTS corridor at Dange chowk in Thergaon.
