Trash strewn on Golibar Maidan along Shankar Sheth Road in Camp for the past few days stumped some young cricket enthusiasts on Monday morning, prompting them to appeal to the authorities to clear the mess.
The Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) authorities nodded in response. Its health department would clean the ground on Tuesday morning.
Golibar Maidan -the venue rented out for events by PCB -had hosted a firecrackers’ market during Diwali last week.
The trash left behind by the traders was lying in a state of neglect until Monday morning, when the ground’s regular users came back.
“A few groups of children residing nearby regularly play cricket on the ground. In addition, many residents use it for morning walks and jogging. The children were inconvenienced because of the trash lying at the part of the Maidan where they usually play. They brought this issue to our notice on Monday. We also received a few calls from morning-walkers,“ PCB assistant civil engineer Sukhdev Patil told TOI.
Patil admitted it was the PCB’s responsibility to clean up the ground after any such event.
“It is under the purview of the health department of PCB to clear the trash left behind, as it is a part of the service we provide to those who rent Golibar Maidan,“ he said.
Patil told TOI that the issue had been taken up and the health department would clear the ground by Tuesday morning.
