Two battery-operated cars to help disabled, elderly at Pune station

Officials said that Pune station, which has six platforms, is likely to get two Battery Operated Cars (BOCs).

Pune railway station would soon get two Battery-Operated Cars (BOCs) to help disabled and elderly passengers commute between the gates and platforms. The Railway Board brought out a circular passing orders to make the facility available at each and every A1 grade railway station in the country. Pune station is among the 75 railway stations across the country which are graded A1.

Interestingly, two years ago, Pune station was equipped with a BOC which was donated by a nationalised bank. The electricity for recharging the battery was provided by the station while the driver’s salary was taken care of by the bank.

However, the vehicle remained idle most of the time. The contact number circulated to press the BOC into action remained out of reach. Officers with the Pune Division, however, said that now, the new service would be much more efficient and would be closely monitored by railway authorities.
