15 special vans deployed by PMC to fix potholes in city

Civic Body Urges Citizens To Use Road-Repair Helplines

Q. When will the municipal corporation’s roads department fix potholes in the roads across the city? After, or before the monsoon ends? ( Shaurya Adit)

A. The PMC has started a helpline which citizens can use to report potholes in our roads. The civic body will deploy staff and workers to complete the repairs. Also, as many as 15 Road Maintenance Vans (RMV) have been moving about in the city to fix problems caused by potholes.

Q. Water has been accumulating in the ducts that were created along the new Smart Roads at Aundh — near the Shiv Sagar hotel. Why did the

PMC create these patches when it knew Pune has heavy rains. The stagnant water can cause disease (Sushil Taskar)

A.Thank you for your letter. We will try to determine why and how water has been accumulating in these patches. Steps will then be taken to drain the water out. If we find that the road has been damaged by stagnant water, it will be repaired. But repairs during the rains could get difficult if the roads are made of tar. If it’s a concrete road, we will use the right materials to fix it immediately. However, we assure you the right measures will be implemented after a site inspection (Sandip Kadam, ward officer, Aundh-Baner ward office)

Q. At several locations in the city, I still notice plastic bags being thrown on the sides of roads. This has been happening despite a statewide ban on plastic bags. Has the municpal corporation not been able to handle the volume of plastic refuse that was generated after the ban went into effect? (Kailash Apte)

A. The PMC has asked citizens to bring banned plastic materials over to designated disposal sites. Citizens can approach the civic body’s headquarters for more details. Even the 15 ward offices can assist in the disposal ofplastic garbage. More than 100 health department offices have been made available for collection of banned plastic.

(Suresh Jagtap, head of PMC’s solid waste management department)

Q. The footpath along Baner-Pashan Link Road has been covered by construction debris from the new passport building. Why is the PMC taking up footpath space for a building’s construction? (Latin Hulsure)

A.Our officials will remove the debris after a site visit. If we find that a private individual has been responsible for the debris, we will impose fines or penalties. (Sandip Kadam, ward officer, Aundh-Baner ward office)
